For Rohit Suraj, the journey from being in the merchant navy and commandeering a portonker around the globe, to designing award-winning buildings, has been nothing but unique. As the founder of Hyderabad-based Urban Zen, Rohit may be considered a maverick by some, as he has no formal educational background in architecture and design. Instilling fascination, elevating the human spirit, initiating conversation are the cornerstones of Urban Zen’s design story.

We are committed to designing and delivering living environments that are timeless, experiential, and on the leading edge of design innovation. Sharing his vision for the future, he says, “It is important that this company of mine is recognized for the right reasons-for its integrity, for making a difference, and having a sense of pride in the tokens that we leave behind which will shape the next few hundred years."

Trendsetting Designs

Lighting design on the ceiling of varied spaces with criss-cross lighting patterns, indirect lights, strip hanging lights, and some decorative light features that add interest to the interiors. The ceilings are done up in a combination of gypsum and modular form making for a heightened acoustical and aesthetic look. All the HVAC and other safety and service cables are neatly concealed within the overall ceiling design.

What a marvelous piece of work visualizing the 20 feet tall Chandelier – Sans Souci (designed by Katarina Kotulacova) which is suspended from the ceiling finished in American black walnut veneer. The brass grill in the backdrop adds to the elegance of the design.

The sun does not realize how wonderful it is until after a room is made.

Warm and soothing bedroom has a contemporary bed-rest and bench seating option created to sit back and relax. The shades of grey and brown are added to give the room a more bespoke touch.

The double-height veneer matches the material used for doors and the lighting, lends to a dramatic touch making it voluminous. Designer Rohit Suraj excels creativity in blending sustainable features and functionality while doing the Overlapping Volumes.

An outspread to enjoy the evening sky, or bask in the morning sunlight, with a comfortable set of couches to relax. Designed to captivate and create an aura of its own.

The myriad seating options are accentuated by colorful cushions and the leather finished silver travertine stone wall with concealed profile lights was done with meticulous planning and attention to detail.

Beyond the family room lies the elegantly designed dining area, with a brass mural (customized from De Castelli, Italy). The chandelier hanging from the Nirvana finished wooden ceiling with cove lights on either side looks decent and gives a sleek and elegant look to the space.

What an amazing way of adding art to the space by showcasing vertical panels designed with profile lighting

The lantern-shaped crystal hanging lamps suspended from the ceiling over the side tables placed in the bedroom and horizontally fluted wooden panel headboard affixes a snug ambience to the room.

The TV cabinet with exotic stone is a focal attraction in the master bedroom.

The wall too has not been left untouched with arty design elements adorning the passage.

The entire staircase is wrapped up in grey Italian marble and wooden railing alongside safer bronze glass and fine lighting.
